Cornerstone is more than a church, it’s a family. A family of believers who are learning together what it means to follow Christ. We are glad you are interested in learning more about our church. We invite you to explore our site to find out more about the people who go here and the Christ we serve.
Here’s some of the things that are important to us.
Relationships – Your relationship to God and your relationship to others and your relationship to the world around us. Jesus summarized how we are to live with two simple commands. That we love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and that we love others as we love ourselves. We believe we can best learn and serve in community. Let’s spur one another on towards love and good deeds as Hebrews 10:24commands us.
Authenticity – We are not pretending to have it all together. If you expect church to be a perfect place full of perfect people, then Cornerstone isn’t the best choice for you. We are full of broken people who Christ is putting back together in order to create something beautiful.
Growth – We have people in all different points in their Christian journey. Some are brand new to the faith and some are mature believers. We even have those who have yet to commit their lives to Christ, and are simply here exploring what Chrisitianity is all about. We want everyone to be growing in their faith and taking the next step to grow closer to Christ. We provide opportunities for everyone to grow and serve and learn. As we follow Christ together, we become more and more like Christ in our thoughts, character, attitudes, and actions.
Here are the answers to frequent questions about Cornerstone
What should I wear?
At Cornerstone, we have people from all walks of life. The bible tells us that man looks on the outward appearance but God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7) Most people dress comfortably and we are not concerned with trying to impress each other. We are more concerned about honoring God by the way we live. Our hearts, therefore, are more important than our apparel.
Where do I park?
Parking is located behind or beside our church building. You can also park along Main Street or across the street in the Parkers Building Supply parking lot.
Where do my kids go for the service?
Cornerstone offers a great experience for children for ages birth through 4th grade to learn in their own age appropriate environment on Sunday mornings. We are a family friendly church and your children are welcome to join you for the service, but we have passionate teachers who work hard to prepare Biblical lessons each week that challenge our Cornerstone Kids to honor God with their lives. We have a structured check-in process to make sure that each child is accounted for. We ask that all parents please register their children at the registration table located downstairs (You can also pre-register online).
How would you describe the worship style?
Our main goal is to honor God. Our style is mostly contemporary worship music. We are blessed with a number of talented musicians and vocalists who use their talents to passionately lift up the name of Jesus.
How long do the services last?
Our typical services last about an hour and 15 minutes each. Some are shorter and some are longer. Even though our services may be a little longer than what you are accustomed to, they are definitely not boring. Through passionate music, video, and teaching, our goal is to challenge you to be a follower of Christ.
What are your denominational beliefs?
Cornerstone is a non-denominational church that focuses on what unites us rather than what divides us. We believe in the early church creed “in essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and in all things, love.” You can read more about our beliefs by clicking here.
What Bible do you use?
We typically preach and teach from the New Living Translation or the New International Version, but other versions are used as well. Our elders take their responsibility to teach seriously, and they strive to take into account the grammatical and historical background of the passages they are teaching from.
Do you pass a collection plate for tithes and offerings?
Cornerstone is supported through the generous giving of those who call Cornerstone home and by those who feel led to partner with us in this ministry. We do not pass a collection plate to take up a morning or evening offering; instead, we have offering boxes located by the two main doors in the main Worship Center. Another option that is available is on-line giving. And, of course, some people prefer to use regular mail (PO Box 757, Galax VA 24333). Please do not send gifts to our street address. Thank you for partnering with us in this ministry.
How do you end your services?
At Cornerstone, we want to help you grow in your faith. So after each service, we want to give you a chance to respond to these two questions.
- What is God saying to me?
- What am I going to do about it?
We give you the opportunity to respond in several different ways. You can read more about our Response Time here on the website.
