Request for Assistance

Benevolence Application

Please read this page carefully before completing the application!

The Benevolence Ministry exists to help financially and otherwise those individuals or families in our community who are struggling due to unforeseen circumstances. An application for assistance is required. If an application is approved, we may provide help financially, but we may provide help in a way that is different from the kind being requested. When help is given, it is granted as a gift and repayment is not expected. However, if you are blessed in the future and would like to help in the ministry of Cornerstone, please do so.

Please fill out this application in its entirety. If the application is not filled out completely (all questions must be answered), we may not be able to complete the application review. Once we receive it back, our benevolence team will review it. If a decision is made to give aid, the necessary steps will be taken and you will be contacted by someone on the benevolence team. Because of the many steps involved in giving aid, the entire process may take up to ten days. Therefore, we are unable to give aid without a one week notice of when the aid is needed, except in rare cases. (For example: if your electric bill is scheduled to be turned off tomorrow, we are unable to help.) We will call or email you to let you know if and how we can help. If you have not heard back from us within ten days of submitting your completed application, please assume it is because we are still reviewing your application. If after ten days you have not heard back from us, please feel free to call us and inquire at 276-236-2583.

Financial Assistance
Although it is our desire to provide financial assistance to all who ask, we are unable to consider any requests except those that are short-term in nature; we are unable to provide long-term financial assistance. Generally, if your request is approved we will help once a year per family (or those living in the same household) so that funds are available for the many requests we receive. We no longer issue food certificates and are unable to provide assistance with medical, credit card, taxes or legal expenses. When applicable, we will refer you to an agency where you may be able to receive other assistance.

Other Assistance
Our concern for you is not limited to your financial situation. We are concerned about your emotional, spiritual, and relational health, as well as your general well-being. We would like to help with long term solutions, when possible. Therefore, at times the help we offer may come in a form different from financial help. Our response to your request may include referrals for spiritual, financial and/or general counseling, food bank referrals, or other social service referrals. However, we may also help with material goods (ie, clothing, furniture, food, etc.) when possible.
