We have exciting news. Many of you have been asking how you can help. We are currently planning on sending a team to work with Samaritan’s Purse to help with the relief efforts in Florida. This will be similar to the New Jersey trip we did after Hurricane Sandy, and the South Carolina Trip we did after Hurricane Matthew. It could involve both cleaning out flooded homes and/or chainsaw work clearing trees and damage. Currently, it looks like the team will be serving in Naples, FL or Fort Myers, FL. However, the relief efforts are in a state of constant change and evolving moment by moment so these plans may change.
You will need to pay for some meals during the trip, but lodging and travel will be covered. Our plan is to leave early in the morning on Wednesday, September 20th and return Sunday evening on the 24th. Jobs and exact location at this point are unclear. They will not become clear until we find out how many people are interested in going. Also, you must be at least 14 years old to participate in this trip. If you are 14-15, you must be accompanied by your parent or legal guardian. If you are 16-17, you must be accompanied by an adult chaperone who is 21 or older.
If you are interested, please email or call Mike Ayers at [email protected] or 276-233-5767 as soon as possible. We will have a planning meeting between church services this Sunday starting at 10:30am. Please plan on attending this meeting if you are interested.
The first step is to let Mike Ayers know that you are interested. After that, please signup as a volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse if you have not done that before. You will need to go ahead and register with them because the background checks take a few days. Login to www.samaritanspurse.org. Sign up/Register as a volunteer and enter Cornerstone as your team.
